I. Admissions/Reservations
1. What are the admissions criteria during the summer?
During the summer (July, August, and September), the Foyer is co-ed and accepts students over the age of 18. A minimum stay of 3 nights is required. return to the list

3. What are the admissions criteria during the academic year?
Admission to the Foyer as a resident is selective and candidates must complete an application dossier. We offer places to candidates who are women, between the ages of 18 and 25, and enrolled as full-time students in one of the univeristies in the Paris region or enrolled in the Cours de Civilisation Française at the Sorbonne.
Students who are enrolled in classe préparatoire may also apply, but the number of places reserved for these students is extremely limited.
Applications from students enrolled in music, architecture, fine arts, graphic arts, etc. are not accepted because the Foyer is not equipped to handle the special needs of these students.
Since the Foyer belongs to the University of Paris, no applications are accepted from students who are enrolled in private schools. return to the list
4. How you enroll in the Foyer for the academic year?
Applicants must complete an admissions dossier which can be obtained either in person or by mail or which can be downloaded here. Once completed, the dossier is reviewed by the admissions committee whose policy is to select candidates in a way that guarantees the largest number of different nationalities and the greatest diversity of studies. Their decision, as well as the procedures for enrollment, are mailed directly to the candidate. return to the list
5. Can interns or students not enrolled in Paris stay at the Foyer during the academic year?
Preference is given to students seeking a place for the academic year or semester. Depending upon availability, students who do not meet the admissions criteria can also apply for a short-term stay (3 nights minimum) at the Foyer. 6. Is the Foyer reserved for foreign students only?
No. During the academic year the Foyer houses approximately 50% French students and 50% foreign students who represent more than 40 different countries.

II. Rooms
1. What are the rooms like?
Students are housed in single or double rooms. Rooms are furnished with the needs of students in mind, and each room has either a desk or a secretary, lamps, chairs, storage space, etc and a refrigerator for storing food. Each room has a sink with hot and cold running water, but toilets and showers are located on the floors. The Foyer has no rooms with ensuite bathrooms. return to the list
2. Do you have to bring sheets and blankets? towels and toiletries?
The Foyer furnishes all bed linens but not towels.. return to the list
3. How large are the rooms?
The size of the rooms varies between 12 and 19 square meters according to their type (single or double). return to the list
4. Who cleans the rooms?
Common areas and the rooms are cleaned Monday through Saturday by the Foyer staff. The Foyer is not a hotel and students are expected to make their bed and to keep the room tidy. return to the list
5. How can you make and receive telephone calls?
Phone calls are put through directly to the room between 8AM and 11PM. Outgoing calls can not be made from the rooms, but there are public telephone booths located on the sidewalk in front of the building. return to the list
6. Can you bring a computer and use it in your room?

7. How can you get internet access?
4 computers in the solarium and 2 computers in the library are available to students for free internet access. Students who have their own computer can connect to the internet in the solarium (ethernet card and RJ-45 cable required) or in the library (wireless connection only).
Students who wish to have an internet connection in their room and who are unable to access the wireless network can borrow a CPL adapter which transmits the internet connection through the electrical outlets in your room. Your laptop must have an Ethernet card, but the CPL cable is furnished with the adapter.
There is no charge for the use of this adapter, but a security deposit of 100 euros is required. The deposit is reimbursed when you return the adapter and the original cable in working condition.

8. Does the Foyer serve meals?
During the summer months (July, August, September) breakfast is included in the price of the room. During the rest of the year, no meals are served. Students who wish to cook have access to hot plates and small ovens or microwave ovens located in the designated areas. Students must bring their own kitchen equipment (pans, and tableware) and are allowed to cook only in the designated areas. Each room is equipped with a small refigerator. return to the list
9. Does the Foyer offer any other services or facilities?
Yes. Students have access to the library, terrace, internet room (solarium), TV room, kitchens, washers and dryer, irons and ironing boards, hair dryer.

III. House Rules
1. Does the Foyer have a curfew?
During the summer months, from July 1 through September 30, the Foyer remains open all night..
During the academic year, from October 1 through June 30, the Foyer remains open all night on Friday and Saturday nights. On all other nights, the Foyer is closed at 1:30AM and remains closed until 6AM. return to the list
2. Are there quiet hours?
The Foyer should be a place where students can rest and pursue their studies under the best conditions. Therefore, beginning at 11PM every night:
* all visitors must leave the building
* phone calls are not put through to the rooms
* students must not make noise.

3. Are visitors allowed?
Visitors are allowed in the rooms between 9AM and 11PM. If you are expecting overnight guests, you must make a reservation for them. Overnight guests are not allowed to spend the night in your room; they are assigned a room at the reception desk, and they are expected to pay for any nights spent at the Foyer.

IV. Prices/Payment
1. What are the prices for the summer of 2009?
From July 1 through September 30, the rates are:
- 35.50 euros per night in a single room.
- 25.50 euros per person per night in a double room.
There is no monthly rate during the summer. Room payments are made upon arrival. return to the list
2. What are the prices for the 2009-2010 academic year?
The rates for the 2009-2010 university year are:
- 550 Euros per month in a single room
- 380 Euros per person and per month in a double room
- 40 Euros enrollment fee
Rooms are payable in advance, between the 1st and the 10th of each month. A security deposit equivalent to one month's housing fee is required at the time of enrollment. Residents who meet the criteria established by the government are eligible for the ALS.
For residents who arrive or leave during the month, the price of the room is calculated by the daily rate in effect.
Students and their families are reminded that the prices quoted do not constitute "rent," but represent a contribution toward the global operating budget of the establishment. These rates do not vary according to the month and no refunds are given for vacation periods. return to the list
3. What are the prices for interns and students who come for short stays during the academic year?
The rates for short stays in 2009 are:
January 1-June 30:
31.50 Euros per night in a single
21.50 Euros per person and per night in a double
July 1 - September 30:
35.50 Euros per night in a single room, breakfast included
25.50 Euros per person per night in a double room, breakfast included
October 1 -December 31:
32 Euros per night in a single
22 Euros per person and per night in a double
